July Update

What happened, what’s going on, what’s coming up? Things you should know about …

Ullswater – Ten days ago. Possibly the wettest ever, but we had a good time. Anyone fancy writing an article about it for the Newsletter? If so, see next item!

Newsletter – Angela is planning to put together another issue of YRISC News very soon. And she could do with some contributions. Anyone who feels inspired to write something (anything), or to contribute a photo or two, don’t be shy, please go ahead! Send contributions to Angela as soon as possible.

Regatta – The annual YRISC/YOSC regatta takes place on Sunday 1 September, and this year it’s our turn to host it.  So we need lots of boats on the water, and lots of people around. Please put the date in your diary now, and sign up on the notice in the clubhouse to indicate your intention to attend.

Capsize, anyone? A number of members have expressed an interest in progressing from RYA Level 1 to Level 2. The chief requirement is time on the water, but there are also a few specific things that you need to be able to do – including dealing with a capsize. So (before the weather starts getting cold again) we are proposing to organise some capsize practice some evening, or maybe on a Sunday. If you’d like to join in, please let Mike know, and a date will be arranged.

Lockers – There are lots of lockers in the clubhouse, and many of them are unused. Every club member is welcome to use one, so if you don’t already have a locker, please claim one and put your name on it. But we also need some locker space for various bits of the club’s equipment. If you intend to continue using your locker, please make sure it’s clearly labelled within the next two weeks. Unlabelled lockers will be emptied and reused!
