Push the Boat Out!

‘Free sailing’ day, Sunday 6 May. This is our official RYA ‘Push the Boat Out’ day. An opportunity to have a go doing whatever you don’t normally do on the river, plus a sort of second Open Day, when we’ll be open to visitors.

YRISC e-News, September 2017

REGATTA … REGATTA … REGATTA …
Sunday 10 September

We are hosting the regatta this year, and we hear that at least two or three boats from Yorkshire Ouse SC are joining us. Please join in, so there are more of our boats than theirs! Racing starts at 11.30, so you need to be there at 10.30. We’ll sort out who is sailing in which boat, with whom, on the day. Barbeque food will be provided, but if you can bring some sort of cake-like item that would be much appreciated.

RYA Level 1 Course
Saturday 30 September / Sunday 1 October

There are still one or two spaces on this course – but if you’d like to take part you’d better sign up soon, before it’s full. Cost is £100. Let us know: yrisc@hotmail.com.

We also need volunteers help to run the course. Any club member available on either of the two days to help on shore, in a sailing boat, or in a rescue boat – please put your name on the list in the club house and/or send us an email: yrisc@hotmail.com.

Events to look forward to, and take part in …

ULLSWATER, 23–25 June. We hope you’ll all be able to join our annual trip (sailing and camping) to Ullswater. Details were in the recent YRISC News (https://yrisc.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/june-2017.pdf), but if you want more information, just ask. If you are planning to come, it would be helpful if you could let us know. Send message to yrisc@hotmail.com. Please also tell us if you are planning to bring a boat, or if you have a towbar and could volunteer to bring one of the club boats.

Rescue boat training, Friday 30 June. From 19:00, max 8 people. Names to yrisc@hotmail.com, or add your name to the list in the club house.

Mike is running an RYA Small Craft First Aid Course on Saturday 1 July. In the club house, start 09:00, finish around 16:30. Tea and coffee provided, but please bring a packed lunch. Includes CPR, defibrillation training, cold water shock, bleeding and hydrostatic dressings. Cost to non-members £60, discounted price for YRISC members £35, including certificate and book. All students must be 16 or over. Minimum of 6 people required for the course to run, max 12. Names to yrisc@hotmail.com. Deposit of £10 by 20 June, please. Final payment before 28 June.

Other stuff …

Use of club boats. We have SIX club boats – two Toppers, two Visions, a GP14 and an RS200. They are available for club members to use, once you have demonstrated to the committee that you are competent to do so. There is a modest fee for their use other than in formal training sessions, and for this year it is £3 for a full day, £2 for a half-day or evening. The money is used to cover the cost of repairs and maintenance – because bits of equipment do wear out, and do occasionally get broken. When you use one of these boats, please make sure to (a) pay the fee and (b) record which boat you have used, and any issues encountered, in the diary on the club-house table. On formal sailing days, the Race Officer will chase you for this!

YRISC News. The latest issue was sent out a week or so ago. Did you get your copy? If not, apologies for the slip-up, and please let us know (yrisc@hotmail.com). Meanwhile, you can see it on our website at https://yrisc.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/june-2017.pdf.
