Sailing course on the River OuseYork RI Sailing Club is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognised training centre  and has an RYA Senior Instructor and three RYA Instructors.

The next SAILING COURSE will be in May 2020. Details will be available here in about February 2020 – but if you don’t want to wait, we can still help you learn to sail.

To give you an idea of what is involved, here are details of THE 2019 COURSE. The 2020 course will look similar.

Level 1 Start Sailing Course – May 2019

  • Introductory evening Friday 3rd  May
  • Session one Tuesday 7th May starting at 7pm
  • Session two Friday 10th May starting at 7pm
  • Session three Tuesday 15th May starting at 7pm
  • Session four Friday 17th May starting at 7pm
  • Session five Saturday 18th May 10am until 4pm

The cost will be £100.00

For the course, we provide buoyancy aids. Participants simply need some old but warm clothes and a pair of soft-soled shoes.

At the end of the course students should have reached Level One standard (or better) and we shall present each one with a certificate. This means that  everybody should be able to helm a dinghy without supervision in light winds and possess the skill to sail it properly round a course and return to land in safety. They will also know what to do in the event of a capsize! If the group advance well (and most do), we shall end up running some simple races just to introduce students to the more exciting side of the sport.

Our sailing season runs from mid-March to the end of October, and if you can fit it in, we recommend that come down one Sunday prior to the course and we will be happy to take you out for a ‘taster’ sail. If you drop us an email, we can fix it up.

The course is open to YRISC members, and if you are not already a member we will ask you to join. The fee for the course will be £100. There will be ample opportunity to continue sailing once the course is over. For more details, or to reserve a place on the course, please contact us.

The course may not be suitable for some children, and acceptance onto the course is at the discretion of the Senior Instructor
